Sa musique n\u2019a pas besoin d\u2019\u00eatre \u00e9labor\u00e9e, et son texte n\u2019est que tr\u00e8s rarement intelligent. Qu\u2019il soit chant\u00e9 dans notre langue maternelle, ou pas, tout ce que l\u2019on demande \u00e0 un tube, c\u2019est qu\u2019il sonne.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><em>Call Me<\/em><\/strong> sonne comme un d\u00e9sir cavalant, comme un coup de t\u00e9l\u00e9phone sexy. Ce standard pop de 1980 \u00e9crit pour le film <strong><em>American Gigolo<\/em><\/strong>, r\u00e9sulte essentiellement de deux esprits poss\u00e9dant un don de compositeur pour les titres universels : <strong>Giorgio Moroder<\/strong> et <strong>Debbie Harry<\/strong>. Mais \u00e9galement de la vision d&rsquo;un sc\u00e9nariste&#8230;<\/p>\n<h3>Une bande-son pour American Gigolo&#8230; et les 80&rsquo;s !<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Quand <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Schrader\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul Schrader<\/a>, sc\u00e9nariste entre autres de Martin Scorsese, Sidney Pollack, Brian De Palma et Steven Spielberg, d\u00e9cide de porter \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran ce sc\u00e9nario qu\u2019il a lui-m\u00eame \u00e9crit, il n\u2019imagine sans doute pas que la bande-son du film va traverser les \u00e9poques. Il faut dire que le sujet est plut\u00f4t d\u00e9licat. L\u2019histoire d\u2019un playboy (incarn\u00e9 par Richard Gere) se prostituant aupr\u00e8s des femmes de la haute soci\u00e9t\u00e9 afin de combler ses go\u00fbts de luxe. Qui plus est, le principal protagoniste. Un homme qui conna\u00eet les m\u00eames affres et le m\u00eame processus de d\u00e9shumanisation\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>\u201cLe personnage d\u2019American Gigolo est sexuellement compulsif. C&rsquo;est un homme qui recherche son identit\u00e9 en donnant du plaisir sexuel mais qui n&rsquo;a aucune id\u00e9e de ce qu&rsquo;est recevoir du plaisir sexuel.\u201d <\/em><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Paul Schrader<\/em><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Paul Schrader travaille dessus depuis trois longues ann\u00e9es. Le filmage est immersif, avec un casting de qualit\u00e9. Un long-m\u00e9trage \u00e0 la fois g\u00eanant, s\u00e9duisant et obsessionnel. Reste \u00e0 trouver une bande-son ad\u00e9quate. Quelque chose de captivant, d\u2019hypnotique. Le travail du compositeur italien <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Giorgio_Moroder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giorgio Moroder<\/a> sur le film <em>Midnight Express<\/em> a retenu son attention. Il semble poss\u00e9der cette palette moderne qu\u2019il recherche. Un genre de pionnier de laboratoire cr\u00e9ant des ambiances \u00e9lectro-pop, support id\u00e9al pour une \u0153uvre visuelle.<\/p>\n<h3>Debbie Harry et Giorgio Moroder r\u00e9concilient rock et disco<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Inspir\u00e9 par cette histoire de d\u00e9shumanisation, et sans doute par l\u2019album de <a href=\"https:\/\/culturesco.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/02\/kraftwerk-the-man-machine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kraftwerk (The Man Machine &#8211; 1978)<\/a>, Giorgio Moroder compose un titre instrumental extr\u00eamement m\u00e9lodieux, et baptis\u00e9 <em>Man Machine<\/em>. Fan de Fleetwood Mac et de sa chanteuse <strong>Stevie Nicks<\/strong>, il lui propose d\u2019\u00e9crire les paroles et de l\u2019interpr\u00e9ter. Seulement cette derni\u00e8re refuse en raison d\u2019une clause figurant sur son contrat. Apr\u00e8s avoir assist\u00e9 \u00e0 une projection du film, elle \u00e9crit le texte en quelques heures.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>\u00ab Lorsque je l&rsquo;\u00e9crivais, j&rsquo;ai imagin\u00e9 la sc\u00e8ne d&rsquo;ouverture, en train de conduire sur la c\u00f4te californienne \u00bb. Debbie Harry<\/em><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Moroder doit batailler avec le groupe de New York pour imposer ses musiciens de session, mais au final, c\u2019est une franche r\u00e9ussite. Un titre malin, r\u00e9ussissant la prouesse de sonner \u00e0 la fois rock et disco.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Le riff de guitare tournoyant sur l\u2019introduction colle parfaitement \u00e0 son \u00e9poque. La voix de Debbie Harry, douce, sensuelle et sans esbroufe, s\u2019appr\u00e9cie d\u2019autant plus sur les relances (\u201cCall Me !!!\u201d). Quant au pont, il restitue un peu de la mystique synth\u00e9tique de ces ann\u00e9es 80. Il emploie les langues de l\u2019amour (italien et fran\u00e7ais), pour une dose d\u2019\u00e9rotisme suppl\u00e9mentaire. Oui cela ressemble \u00e0 une recette du succ\u00e8s. C\u2019est souvent le cas avec l&rsquo;ing\u00e9nieux Moroder, qui sait parfaitement joindre l&rsquo;utile \u00e0 l&rsquo;agr\u00e9able. D&rsquo;ailleurs, lorsqu&rsquo;on entend le r\u00e9sultat, on a juste envie de passer un coup de fil \u00e0 cette ch\u00e8re Debbie\u2026<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\">Blondie (featuring Giorgio Moroder) &#8211; Call Me\u00a0 (1980)<\/h3>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"o3hHsVtqNFQ\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Call Me (Theme From &quot;American Gigolo&quot;)\" width=\"696\" height=\"522\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/o3hHsVtqNFQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Bien \u00e9videmment, les reprises de ce tube plan\u00e9taire ne manquent pas. Oui mais voil\u00e0, l\u2019original est si parfait qu\u2019il est bien difficile de trouver un \u00e9quivalent au chant sensuel et \u00e9l\u00e9gant de Debbie Harry, ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 la savante mixture concoct\u00e9e par le sorcier Moroder. On trouve en surface, des ann\u00e9es 80 \u00e0 nos jours, quelques concours de d\u00e9cibels mal orchestr\u00e9s, et tr\u00e8s dispensables. Mais en fouillant un peu\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On conna\u00eet surtout <strong>The Box Tops<\/strong> pour leur p\u00e9riode 60-70, et leur inoubliable titre <em>The Letter<\/em>. Ce groupe de blue-eyed soul a connu plusieurs reformations. Durant la derni\u00e8re, quelques ann\u00e9es avant la disparition du chanteur <strong>Alex Chilton<\/strong>, prenant part \u00e0 une compilation r\u00e9unissant tubes et groupes \u00e0 contre emploi, ils offrent une excellente reprise de <em>Call Me<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\">The Box Tops &#8211; Call Me (2002)<\/h3>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"CHtMHDa-jYI\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Box Tops - Call Me (Blondie Cover)\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CHtMHDa-jYI\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">En 2008, c\u2019est <strong>Skye Edwards<\/strong>, chanteuse du groupe anglais <strong>Morcheeba<\/strong>, qui dans son escapade en solitaire, d\u00e9livre sa version. Chaleureuse, avec son rythme reggae, et son chant tout en douceur..<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\">Skye Edwards &#8211; Call Me (2008)<\/h3>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"omxuVED2psw\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Call Me\" width=\"696\" height=\"522\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/omxuVED2psw\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">La sc\u00e8ne rock \u00e9mergente du d\u00e9but du troisi\u00e8me mill\u00e9naire regorge de groupes adeptes de riffs efficaces et de m\u00e9lodies \u00e9ternelles. Les \u00e9cossais de <strong>Franz Ferdinand<\/strong> ne sont pas les moins dou\u00e9s du lot. Eux aussi, adressent leurs salutations rock\u2019n\u2019roll au groupe Blondie.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\">Franz Ferdinand &#8211; Call Me (2009)<\/h3>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"RB3fK_flsDA\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Call Me\" width=\"696\" height=\"522\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RB3fK_flsDA\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Dans ce type de chronique, syst\u00e9matiquement, je ne peux m\u2019emp\u00eacher de glisser une cover rockabilly. En l\u2019\u00e9coutant, on songe que Debbie Harry, sous ses accointances punky, v\u00eatue d&rsquo;une une robe noire fa\u00e7on <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rita_Hayworth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rita Hayworth<\/a> (Gilda), n\u2019aurait pas fait t\u00e2che devant un big band.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\">Postmodern Jukebox featuring Tess Mohr (2020)<\/h3>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"KLmqgI4QfHc\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Call Me - Blondie (Marilyn Monroe Style Cover) ft. Avec son sujet sensible, ses paroles l\u00e9g\u00e8res, et ses sonorit\u00e9s modernes, il ouvre le bal des 80&rsquo;s. Blondie caracole en t\u00eate du billboard am\u00e9ricain durant six semaines. Par la suite, le succ\u00e8s de ce titre passe l&rsquo;\u00e9preuve du temps avec une certaine aisance, au point de snober les tendances. A l&rsquo;\u00e9poque, on l&rsquo;avait qualifi\u00e9 de <em>rock-dance<\/em>, \u00e9tiquette hasardeuse qui n&rsquo;a plus cours aujourd&rsquo;hui.
