Plong\u00e9e dans le domaine artistique depuis sa plus tendre enfance, Kate \u00e9labore les paroles de cette chanson \u00e0 partir d\u2019un roman d<strong>&lsquo;Emilie Bront\u00eb<\/strong>\u00a0dont l\u2019adaptation cin\u00e9matographique de 1939 permet \u00e0 <strong>Lawrence Olivier<\/strong> de briller dans le r\u00f4le principale d\u2019Heathcliff, le \u00ab fils maudit \u00bb: \u00ab<strong>How can you leave me, cruel Heathcliff, my one dream, my only master<\/strong>\u00bb, t\u00e9moignage d\u2019un amour immod\u00e9r\u00e9.<\/p>\n<h3>Kate BUSH &#8211; Wuthering Heights &#8211; 1978<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fs3Do1KkeXY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Symboliquement, on pr\u00eate \u00e0 la Belle un<strong> romantisme manifeste<\/strong>, associant sa propre vie aux paroles de ses chansons. Deux ans et demi plus tard, un autre extraordinaire single: Babooshka, vient contredire cette s\u00e9duisante supposition. Extrait de l\u2019album \u00ab<strong>Never for ever<\/strong>\u00bb, le titre conte une autre histoire d\u2019amour, ou comment une vieille passion, tel un Ph\u00e9nix, se r\u00e9invente au pr\u00e9sent. Vu son \u00e2ge en 1980, impossible que <strong>Kate Bush<\/strong> incarne la protagoniste de ce voyage temporel.<strong> Romantique<\/strong>, certainement, pour le reste \u2026 <strong>Ballerine<\/strong> ? A la fin des 70\u2019s, clips et prestations sc\u00e9niques sont en faveur. <strong>Rockeuse<\/strong> ?<\/p>\n<h3>Kate BUSH &#8211; Babooshka &#8211; 1980<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6xckBwPdo1c\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Babooshka &#8230; Bush\u2019n\u2019rock<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La participation active de <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Gilmour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Gilmour<\/a> au premier Lp de Melle Bush justifie-t-elle qu\u2019on utilise l\u2019<strong>appellation \u00ab rock \u00bb<\/strong> pour le qualifier ? On a vue plus \u00ab heavy \u00bb. Le son des morceaux ne correspond pas, l\u2019inamovible : intro-couplets-refrain-solo-couplet-refrains-fade out, le tout en 3 min chrono, non plus. \u00ab Caricatural ! \u00bb, oui, mais quand m\u00eame. Une batterie qui claque, une basse qui gronde, une guitare \u00e9lectrique qui se tortille autour d\u2019un riff plus ou moins satur\u00e9 \u2026 chez <strong>Kate Bush<\/strong>, on cherche encore, m\u00eame dans cette excellent 4\u00e8me Lp sorti en 1982 o\u00f9 \u00ab <strong>Suspended in gaffa<\/strong> \u00bb fait bonne figure en mati\u00e8re de hit. En fait, \u00ab <strong>The dreaming<\/strong> \u00bb marque un tournant dans l\u2019avanc\u00e9e de la chanteuse vers <strong>sa propre expression musicale et artistique<\/strong>. \u00ab <strong>Hounds of love<\/strong> \u00bb (1985) confirmera cette option ainsi que les albums qui suivront.<br \/>\n<strong>Rockeuse<\/strong> ? Pas selon les \u00ab \u00e9talons \u00bb initi\u00e9s vingt ans plus t\u00f4t.<\/p>\n<h3>Kate BUSH &#8211; Suspended in Gaffa &#8211; 1982<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lr2acDdfbvY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Les influences r\u00e9ciproques<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Retrouve-t-on dans la musique de <strong>Kate Bush<\/strong> les fragrances d\u2019un courant musical ou d\u2019une artiste en particulier ? Nous serions tent\u00e9s de r\u00e9pondre \u00ab non \u00bb tant <strong>sa production est singuli\u00e8re<\/strong>. \u00c9mettons n\u00e9anmoins une hypoth\u00e8se associ\u00e9e \u00e0 une chanteuse qui semble assez proche d\u2019elle dans l\u2019esprit, qui pr\u00e9sente une m\u00eame volont\u00e9 d\u2019exister au travers d\u2019une cr\u00e9ation musicale personnelle : la canadienne <strong>Joni Mitchell<\/strong> (\u00ab Blue \u00bb &#8211; 1971). Un profil m\u00ealant finesse d\u2019interpr\u00e9tation et timbre de voix, l\u2019adoption d\u2019un accordage de guitare maison, pour ne pas : \u00ab faire comme \u00bb \u2026 <strong>Une influence<\/strong> ?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Les ann\u00e9es passent \u2026 En 1992, une chanteuse US sort son premier essai en solo : \u00ab Little Earthquakes \u00bb, dont le principal single : \u00ab <strong>Crucify<\/strong> \u00bb, n\u2019est pas sans rappeler la liane anglaise. <strong>Tori Amos<\/strong>, puisqu\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019elle, adepte du piano\/voix, enrobe ses chansons d\u2019une aura assez similaire \u00e0 celle de Kate. <strong>Influenc\u00e9e<\/strong> ?<\/p>\n<h3>Les concomitances<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En <strong>1978<\/strong>, au moment ou parait \u00ab The kick inside \u00bb, une ensorceleuse au visuel \u00ab marqu\u00e9 \u00bb sort \u00e9galement sa premi\u00e8re production vinylique : <strong>Lene Lovich<\/strong> \u2013 \u00ab Stateless \u00bb. Outre son look \u00ab typ\u00e9 \u00bb, versus poup\u00e9e russe, elle fait tout autant preuve d\u2019<strong>envergure sc\u00e9nique <\/strong>que de<strong> talent<\/strong>. N\u00e9anmoins, sa proposition musicale \u00e9voque d\u2019avantage le <strong>post punk<\/strong>, la <strong>new wave<\/strong>, sa voix se rapprochant d\u2019avantage de celle de <a href=\"https:\/\/culturesco.com\/index.php\/2019\/07\/06\/patti-smith-horses-1er-album-1975-l-esprit-dissident-de-gloria-a-break-it-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patti Smith<\/a>. \u00ab Stateless \u00bb est un album s\u00e9duisant mais, somme toute, <strong>moins innovant que \u00ab The kick inside \u00bb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, <a href=\"https:\/\/culturesco.com\/index.php\/2019\/06\/26\/siouxsie-and-the-banshees-4ieme-album-juju-avec-le-guitariste-john-mcgeoch-spellbound-arabian-knigths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Siouxsie Sioux et ses Banshees<\/a> livre \u00ab The scream \u00bb. Le<strong> look<\/strong> de Sioux est tout aussi <strong>marquant<\/strong>, si ce n\u2019est plus, que celui de Bush et sa <strong>musique pr\u00f4ne l\u2019originalit\u00e9.<\/strong> Par contre, <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Gilmour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Siouxsie<\/a> opte pour une <strong>production de groupe<\/strong>, pas celle d\u2019une artiste solo. Il reste que ce d\u00e9but marquant tiendra ses promesses jusqu\u2019\u00e0 nos jours, o\u00f9 elle finit par \u0153uvrer en solo. Idem pour <strong>Nina Hagen<\/strong>, la \u00ab Castafiore \u00bb punk, qui depuis l\u2019album \u00e9ponyme du Nina Hagen Band l\u00e2che des borborygmes et\/ou saillies s\u00e9pulcrales entre deux utilisations phalliques du micro. Travail de groupe <strong>pas <\/strong>d\u2019<strong>une artiste \u00ab esseul\u00e9e \u00bb.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">De l\u2019autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 de l\u2019Atlantique, <strong>Debbie Harry<\/strong> et Blondie font rimer rock et charts avec \u00ab Parallel lines \u00bb alors que <a href=\"https:\/\/culturesco.com\/index.php\/2018\/11\/05\/pat-benatar-the-american-rock-way-of-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pat Benatar<\/a> affine ses chansons en coulisse. Encore une fois, <strong>des collectifs<\/strong>, certes port\u00e9s par des individualit\u00e9s mais compacts et \u00ab membr\u00e9s \u00bb.<br \/>\nAu centre de ce tourbillon musical, l\u2019<strong>univers de Kate Bush<\/strong> fait figure de \u00ab <strong>ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne<\/strong> \u00bb. Il lui est propre, fruit de sa seule imagination, ne pr\u00eatant \u00e0 aucune concurrence puisque <strong>inimitable et inimit\u00e9<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u00ab\u00a0Il y a toujours eu tant de gens pour me dire ce que je devrais faire qu\u2019il est impossible de les \u00e9couter. Alors, je ne fais qu\u2019\u00e9couter les petites voix qui sont \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de moi. Nous pouvons citer <a href=\"https:\/\/culturesco.com\/index.php\/2018\/10\/11\/gustav-klimt-du-cycle-d-or-periode-doree-a-l-impressionisme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gustav Klimt<\/a> pour l\u2019aspect bucolique et automnal d\u2019une toile comme \u00ab <strong>L\u2019arbre de vie<\/strong> \u00bb (1909) qui rappel le visuel de \u00ab Never for ever \u00bb. Chez <strong>Edgar Degas<\/strong>, l\u2019amour du corps en mouvement reproduit sur sa s\u00e9rie de tableaux illuminant <strong>les danseuses de l\u2019Op\u00e9ra de Paris<\/strong> (autour de 1890), sied bien \u00e0 la Belle. L&rsquo;auteur de Babooshka invente des <strong>invraisemblances magnifiques<\/strong> o\u00f9 d\u2019autres artistes ne produiraient qu\u2019\u00e9corchures. Ses chansons font toujours l\u2019objet d\u2019une <strong>orchestration<\/strong> et d\u2019une <strong>production soign\u00e9es<\/strong>, m\u00eame sur des passages voix\/piano que l\u2019on pourrait croire saisis live en studio. Au d\u00e9but des 80\u2019s, son amiti\u00e9 particuli\u00e8re avec <a href=\"https:\/\/culturesco.com\/index.php\/2019\/05\/16\/peter-gabriel-en-tournee-en-france-en-1977\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peter Gabriel<\/a> colorise sa musique qui, d\u00e8s lors, incorpore nombre de <strong>percussions dans ses partitions<\/strong> : des sons africains, hindouistes ou tib\u00e9tains. Son fr\u00e8re,<strong> Paddy Bush<\/strong>, co-compositeur des chansons depuis ses d\u00e9buts, est quant \u00e0 lui responsable de l\u2019utilisation d\u2019instruments de <strong>musiques traditionnelles<\/strong> : bouzouki, fiddle \u2026 qui \u00ab\u00a0condimentent\u00a0\u00bb les morceaux au profit de la <strong>singularit\u00e9<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Survolant la partition, lui donnant son <strong>sens et<\/strong> son<strong> \u00e9quilibre<\/strong>, la <strong>voix<\/strong> si particuli\u00e8re de Kate <strong>domine<\/strong>. Sachant \u00e9galement d\u00e9raper, \u00e0 la limite du yoodle, ou descendre dans des graves d\u2019outre-tombe,<strong> toujours en situation<\/strong>, sans <strong>jamais<\/strong> se faire <strong>d\u00e9monstrative<\/strong>, elle fait <strong>danser les mots<\/strong>. D\u2019 albums en albums, Kate conserve ces <strong>intonations identitaires<\/strong>, cette ma\u00eetrise intrins\u00e8que, cette <strong>inalt\u00e9rable<\/strong> voix. Yes but : <strong>\u00ab rock \u00bb or definitely not<\/strong> ?
