C\u2019est en 1955, que <strong>Richard Berry<\/strong> musicien de rythm &amp; blues, compose ce classique. Mais vous connaissez l\u2019histoire du rock (ou de la pop), tout le monde s\u2019inspire de tout le monde. Aux Etats-Unis, les ann\u00e9es 50 r\u00e9v\u00e8lent le rock\u2019n\u2019roll et le rythm &amp; blues, et font la part belle aux danses latines comme le tango et le <strong>cha cha<\/strong>. L\u2019histoire est belle\u2026 Pourtant, je me dois de pr\u00e9ciser que Richard Berry disait \u00e9galement avoir puis\u00e9 les paroles dans le titre <em>One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)<\/em>, extrait de la com\u00e9die musicale <em>The Sky\u2019s the Limit<\/em>. Un titre dans lequel le personnage incarn\u00e9 par Fred Astaire s\u2019adresse \u00e0 son barman. Hors, le barman de Richard Berry s\u2019appelait <strong>Louie<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sur un rythme calypso, le texte \u00e9voque un marin en Jama\u00efque, expliquant donc \u00e0 un barman nomm\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0<em>Louie\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>, qu\u2019il est \u00e0 la recherche de sa fianc\u00e9e. <strong>Richard Berry<\/strong> est soutenu par le s\u00e9millant groupe vocal <strong>The Pharaohs<\/strong>. Membre de la communaut\u00e9 doo wop de Los Angeles, Richard Berry est d\u00e9j\u00e0 le chanteur non cr\u00e9dit\u00e9 de <em>Riot in Cell Block 9<\/em>, titre des <strong>Robins<\/strong> (les futurs Coasters !). <em>Louie Louie<\/em>, titre rythm &amp; blues pourtant bien balanc\u00e9, ne rencontre qu\u2019un succ\u00e8s mod\u00e9r\u00e9 en Californie. Richard Berry, en instance de mariage, peine \u00e0 trouver les fonds n\u00e9cessaires pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer la chose. Pour <strong>750 dollars<\/strong>, il c\u00e8de donc au patron de Flip Records, ses droits d\u2019\u00e9dition sur quatre titres, dont le fameux<em> Louie Louie<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En 1961,<strong> The Wailers<\/strong> (pas ceux de Bob Marley), groupe de Tacoma, en font une reprise remani\u00e9e. Elle obtient un succ\u00e8s important du c\u00f4t\u00e9 de Seattle (Washington), gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la station de radio KRJ, ainsi que de l\u2019autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la fronti\u00e8re canadienne, \u00e0 Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Soutenue par une rythmique de guitare \u00e9lectrique, et orn\u00e9e d\u2019un solo, ceci est la premi\u00e8re version aux accents garage de <em>Louie Louie<\/em>. Le chanteur <strong>Jack Ely<\/strong>, s\u2019inspire de la version chant\u00e9e des Wailers. En revanche, c\u2019est par erreur qu\u2019il int\u00e8gre le rythme originel du morceau de Richard Berry. Il ne leur faut que deux prises pour mettre le futur hit sur bandes. En effet, malgr\u00e9 le bouche \u00e0 oreille, les Kingsmen n\u2019en vendent que 600 exemplaires lors de sa premi\u00e8re publication (mai 1963). La seconde, en octobre, est involontairement boost\u00e9e par un passage radio. Le DJ Arnie Ginsburg, cador de Boston, se voit confier un exemplaire de Louie Louie par les Kingsmen. Cette impro inintelligible provoque les soup\u00e7ons du FBI qui subodore la pr\u00e9sence d&rsquo;obsc\u00e9nit\u00e9s dissimul\u00e9es. Faute de preuves, les Kingsmen sont \u00e9pargn\u00e9s. Cerise sur le g\u00e2teau, la controverse d\u00e9bouche sur une kyrielle de l\u00e9gendes concernant le sens cach\u00e9 des paroles, alimentant myst\u00e8re et fascination chez le jeune public.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cette version, o\u00f9 se m\u00ealent sauvagerie et nonchalance, est inspir\u00e9e par la mouvance garage s\u00e9vissant sur les Etats-Unis.
